The Powerball jackpot has climbed once again after no ticket matched all six winning numbers in the Monday, Sept. 14 drawing. With the grand prize rolling over, lottery officials project the jackpot for the upcoming Wednesday, Sept. 16 drawing to reach an estimated $271 million, offering a potential cash lump-sum payout of $115.1 million to a single top-prize winner.

During the Sept. 14 drawing, the white ball numbers drawn were 19, 20, 57, 61, and 67, with the red Powerball designated as 22. The Power Play multiplier for the night was set at 2X. Although the primary $253 million jackpot went unclaimed, the drawing produced significant financial windfalls for lucky players in multiple states across the country.

The biggest winner of the night emerged in Ohio, where a player successfully matched all five white balls. Because the ticket holder chose to add the optional Power Play feature to their purchase, the baseline $1 million Match 5 prize was automatically doubled to a massive $2 million payout.

A second major prize was secured by a player in Georgia, who also matched all five white numbers to secure a standard Match 5 reward of $1 million. These two tickets represented the highest payouts of the night, highlighting how substantial second-tier earnings can be even when the grand prize rolls over.

The rollover marks another step in the steady growth of the current Powerball jackpot sequence. Heading into the Monday drawing, the prize stood at an estimated $253 million, which held an advertised cash value of $107.4 million. The lack of a top-tier winner expanded the prize pool by $18 million ahead of the midweek game.

Alongside the main drawing, the lottery conducted its companion Double Play drawing on Monday evening. The winning numbers selected for the Sept. 14 Double Play were 12, 23, 48, 61, and 67, with a red Powerball of 8. For an extra $1 per play, participants in select jurisdictions have the opportunity to enter their numbers into this secondary drawing, which features a top cash award of $10 million.

Powerball drawings take place three times a week, running on a regular schedule every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 11 p.m. ET. Players across the nation regularly track these broadcasts in anticipation of life-changing multi-state lottery payouts.

Securing the top jackpot in the multi-state lottery requires overcoming astronomical odds. According to lottery data, the statistical probability of matching all five white balls along with the red Powerball stands at 1 in 292.2 million. Meanwhile, the odds of matching five white numbers without the Powerball to win $1 million are 1 in 11.7 million.

A wide array of lower-tier payouts are also up for grabs in every drawing. Players who match four white balls plus the red Powerball face odds of approximately 1 in 913,000 to win a $50,000 prize. Matching four white balls alone or three white balls plus the Powerball each awards a $100 payout, with odds of roughly 1 in 36,000 and 1 in 14,500, respectively.

Smaller cash awards provide frequent returns for ticket buyers. Matching three white balls or matching two white balls with the Powerball pays $7, with odds of 1 in approximately 580 and 1 in 700, respectively. The lowest prize tier awards $4 to players who match a single white ball with the Powerball (odds of 1 in 92) or those who match only the red Powerball (odds of 1 in 38).

Participating in the game is relatively simple for prospective players. A standard Powerball ticket costs $2, with players choosing five numbers from a pool of 1 through 69 for the white balls and one number from 1 through 26 for the red Powerball. Numbers can be selected manually on a play slip or generated automatically by a lottery terminal using a random selection.

For an extra $1, buyers can activate the Power Play option on their ticket. This feature multiplies non-jackpot payouts across all applicable prize levels, offering players a way to boost secondary earnings, as seen with Ohio's recent $2 million winner. In states such as Kentucky and Indiana, players can also opt for the $1 Double Play add-on.

The Powerball game is accessible across a broad geographical footprint, operating in 45 states as well as Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Participation is not limited by nationality; players do not need to be United States citizens or official U.S. residents to legally purchase tickets and claim their winnings.

Traditional paper tickets can be purchased at local authorized retailers, including gas stations, convenience stores, and supermarkets in participating states such as Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. Players should note that retail sales cutoff times vary by jurisdiction, typically closing one to two hours prior to the 11 p.m. ET drawing.

Digital options have also expanded the convenience of playing Powerball. Residents in Kentucky, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C. can purchase tickets online directly through their respective official state lottery websites. Additionally, players in Ohio and Indiana can order tickets through Jackpocket, the digital lottery courier affiliated with the USA TODAY Network.
