In an extraordinary act of collective community philanthropy, a coalition of Central Florida event-industry vendors has come together to entirely underwrite a high-end fundraising gala for a local charity. The upcoming event, scheduled for Saturday evening, is designed to ensure that the chosen nonprofit incurs zero upfront production expenses, allowing every dollar raised during the evening to directly benefit its core charitable mission.
This unique initiative, known as the Goodness Gala, eliminates the traditional overhead costs that often diminish the net returns of nonprofit fundraisers. By fully donating all venue, catering, and production services, the participating commercial event companies have created a turnkey gala package valued at an estimated $100,000, presenting a rare opportunity for the recipient charity to maximize its financial intake.
The beneficiary of this year's donated event is New Hope for Kids, a Maitland-based organization dedicated to supporting children and families navigating profound loss. The nonprofit provides vital resources to young people who have experienced the death of parents, siblings, or other close loved ones due to illnesses, accidents, suicide, or violent crime.
Through its structured counseling programs and specialized grief-support groups, New Hope for Kids addresses the complex emotional aftermath of sudden family tragedy. The organization works closely with both children and surviving parents, guiding them through the grieving process and helping them develop coping mechanisms to rebuild stability in their daily lives.
Brian Clark, the chief executive officer of New Hope for Kids, highlighted the strategic value of the event for an organization that has served Central Florida for 30 years. Clark noted that despite the charity's long-standing track record, many families experiencing traumatic bereavement remain unaware of the available support services, making the heightened visibility of the gala just as important as the funds raised.
The concept behind the Goodness Gala originated with Sean Hughes, chief executive officer of aVenue Event Group. As an industry veteran whose company owns and operates The Balcony—a rooftop event space overlooking downtown Orlando—Hughes recognized that traditional charitable galas often require months of intensive planning and significant financial risk for budget-constrained organizations.
Rather than simply offering partial discounts or piecemeal vendor contributions, Hughes sought to unite local businesses to provide a fully funded, professional event. The vision was to lift the logistical and financial strain entirely off the nonprofit, allowing charity leaders to focus their energy entirely on donor engagement and mission advocacy.
The donated production covers every element of the upscale gathering. Guests attending the rooftop affair at The Balcony will receive complimentary dinner service, appetizers, and an open bar, complemented by professional disc jockey entertainment, specialized event photography, and custom-printed programs. The package also incorporates comprehensive sound and lighting systems, event tables, and elaborate floral arrangements.
Participating business owners have expressed deep personal commitment to the cause, with many citing the emotional weight of New Hope's mission as their primary motivation. James Marino, the owner of TableTop Catering, explained that confronting the reality of local children coping with parental loss inspired his team to contribute their culinary services to ensure the event's success.
To ensure a fair and transparent selection process, gala organizers partnered with the Central Florida Foundation, an established institution that offers strategic guidance to regional philanthropists. The foundation assisted in evaluating submissions from 36 different area non-profit organizations that formally applied to receive the 2026 gala package.
The Goodness Gala has expanded substantially since its inception. During its inaugural year, approximately two dozen organizations applied for the donation, which was ultimately awarded to NextStep Orlando, a nonprofit focused on supporting individuals undergoing recovery from paralysis. This year's heightened competition reflects growing interest among regional charities seeking low-risk fundraising avenues.
A diverse roster of Central Florida event specialists collaborated to make the 2026 event possible. Alongside aVenue Event Group and TableTop Catering, the coalition includes Orlando Marquee & Decor, Go To Event Rentals, iRock Your Party, Bellamore Studio, Faux Real Flowers, On Top Printing, and Printed for Light.
Gloria Capozzi, director of community outreach at New Hope for Kids, reflected on the profound transformation experienced by children participating in peer support groups, describing the process of emerging from grief as bringing light into darkness. The zero-cost gala guarantees that community contributions made throughout the night directly fund these therapeutic environments.
Following the conclusion of Saturday's event, the coalition of vendors plans to immediately prepare for the next charitable cycle. Organizers announced that applications for the 2027 Goodness Gala will officially open on October 1, continuing their collaborative effort to deliver substantial, long-term impact for the Central Florida nonprofit community.
