Two Young Men Arrested in Connection with Fatal June Shooting of Stockton Teen

Stockton law enforcement authorities have taken two young men into custody in connection with the fatal summer shooting of a 16-year-old boy, marking a major milestone in a violent homicide investigation that left a local neighborhood shaken. The arrests follow nearly three months of intensive investigative work after the teenager was discovered mortally wounded inside a wrecked vehicle in a Stockton residential court.

Police identified the suspects as 19-year-old Jaylen Morn and 20-year-old Marciano Rivera. Both young men are facing legal proceedings related to the deadly confrontation that claimed the life of Valentino Mark Gilmore, a 16-year-old whose vehicle collided with a tree after gunfire erupted during the early morning hours of June 13.

The violent incident unfolded just after midnight on June 13, when Stockton Police Department patrol officers were dispatched around 12:30 a.m. following emergency calls reporting that a person had been shot. The rapid emergency response brought law enforcement units directly to the 1900 block of Hickock Court, a residential area where the shooting occurred.

Upon arriving at the scene, responding officers encountered a vehicle that had sustained severe damage after crashing directly into a tree within the court. Inside the vehicle, officers found Gilmore suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the prompt arrival of emergency medical personnel, the 16-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

As initial responders secured the perimeter of the crash site and attended to the vehicle, additional officers searching the immediate vicinity made another critical discovery. A 55-year-old man was located at a separate spot inside the same court, suffering from an apparent graze wound caused by gunfire. Emergency personnel quickly provided medical care and transported him to a local hospital for further treatment.

Investigators from the Stockton Police Department subsequently confirmed that both the teenage decedent and the 55-year-old injured man were involved in the exact same violent incident. However, authorities have withheld additional specifics regarding the exact relationship between the two victims and the precise sequence of events that precipitated the gunfire.

In the days immediately following the deadly event, grieving family members, friends, and neighborhood residents gathered to pay their respects to the young victim. A roadside memorial was established on June 15 along Hickock Court to honor Gilmore’s life, featuring portraits of the teenager surrounded by lit candles, floral offerings, and various snacks left behind by loved ones.

Gilmore’s untimely death marked the city of Stockton’s 11th recorded homicide of the year, bringing renewed attention to the persistent issues of urban violence and youth safety facing communities throughout San Joaquin County. The incident highlighted the devastating impact of gun violence on young residents and their families.

Homicide detectives worked for weeks to piece together physical evidence and trace those responsible, eventually identifying 19-year-old Jaylen Morn as a key suspect in the homicide case. On September 2, law enforcement officers located Morn and placed him under arrest, though police did not publicly disclose where the apprehension took place or the specific investigative leads that tied him to the crime scene.

Following his arrest, judicial records indicate that Morn made his initial appearance in court on September 4 for an arraignment hearing. The 19-year-old remains in custody as the case moves forward through the legal process, and he is scheduled to return to the courtroom on September 23 for a further arraignment proceeding.

The police investigation continued to gain momentum in the days following Morn's apprehension, leading detectives to identify a second suspect. On September 9, exactly one week after Morn was taken into custody, law enforcement authorities located and arrested 20-year-old Marciano Rivera in connection with the fatal shooting.

Following his capture, Rivera was booked into the county jail facility, with official jail records indicating that he was scheduled to make his initial appearance before a judge on September 11. The apprehensions ensure that both identified suspects are currently detained as county prosecutors prepare their formal cases.

The dual arrests represent a vital breakthrough for investigators seeking to resolve a complex, multi-victim crime scene. Law enforcement officials routinely face significant challenges when untangling nighttime shootings, requiring detailed ballistic reviews, forensic examinations, and witness interviews to establish criminal culpability.

With both Morn and Rivera now entering the San Joaquin County judicial system, the focus shifts toward the court proceedings ahead. For the family of Valentino Mark Gilmore and the surrounding Stockton community, the arrests mark the opening phase of a formal legal journey toward accountability and justice in the loss of a teenage life.
