South Florida Woman Facing Grand Theft Charge Following Alleged Theft of $98,000 Rolex

A 32-year-old Miami woman is facing a felony grand theft charge after an evening encounter at a South Florida venue allegedly ended in the disappearance of a luxury timepiece valued at nearly $100,000. Authorities allege that the suspect accompanied a man back to his residence before taking the high-end watch while he experienced sudden physical impairment.

The defendant, identified in court records as Lynda Mae Crouse, was apprehended on an outstanding Broward County warrant stemming from the April incident. Law enforcement officials charged Crouse with second-degree grand theft, a statutory classification that applies to the alleged unlawful taking of property valued between $20,000 and $100,000.

According to a probable cause affidavit prepared by the Hallandale Beach Police Department, the interaction originated in the early morning hours of April 12. The complainant reported meeting Crouse shortly past midnight at the Carousel Club, an entertainment venue situated within Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach.

During their initial conversation at the venue, the pair exchanged social media contact details via Instagram before temporarily parting ways. Roughly an hour following their initial encounter, the complainant arranged and paid for an Uber rideshare service to transport Crouse from her home address directly to his private residence.

Upon arriving at the residence, the two spent time together inside the home and consumed alcoholic beverages. The situation escalated when the host stepped away from the common area and entered his private bedroom with the intention of changing his attire.

While inside the bedroom, the man reported suddenly feeling profoundly exhausted and distinctly unwell. In his statements to investigators, he described experiencing an abrupt physical sensation that felt abnormal, alongside hearing a distinct clapping or snapping noise resonating from the adjacent living area.

When the complainant reentered the living space, he noted that Crouse’s demeanor had shifted significantly. She abruptly informed him that she was departing the residence, leaving him alone as he succumbed to extreme fatigue and fell asleep almost immediately following her exit.

Upon regaining consciousness several hours later, the victim noted that he continued to feel disoriented and physically abnormal, leading him to suspect that an incapacitating substance had been surreptitiously introduced into his drink. His suspicions heightened when he inspected the display box where he stored his luxury watch in the living room.

An examination of the container confirmed that the timepiece was missing. The stolen item was cataloged as a gold 40-millimeter Rolex Presidential watch, distinguished by custom baguette diamond hour markers and an ornate diamond-encrusted bezel. The complainant later provided police with an official, signed appraisal verifying the item's market value at $98,400.

Reflecting on the timeline of the evening, the complainant informed investigators that the clapping sound he detected while inside his bedroom was consistent with the physical closure of the heavy Rolex storage case. Although he experienced prolonged grogginess and recounted lingering symptoms in a sworn recorded statement to detectives, no formal medical treatment or toxicology screening was conducted as part of the Hallandale Beach investigation.

During the subsequent investigative phase, detectives presented the complainant with a standard photographic lineup containing six individual portraits. The victim positively identified Crouse from the array as the woman who had visited his home on the night in question.

Police records further indicate that investigators have connected Crouse to an ongoing pattern of criminal activity across South Florida. Authorities highlighted four separate open cases under review in neighboring Miami-Dade County that exhibit an identical modus operandi.

In those parallel cases, investigators allege that Crouse deliberately sought out male patrons wearing high-end wristwatches at various regional bars and nightclubs. She would then accompany the individuals to their private residences or hotel rooms, where the expensive jewelry items would subsequently vanish under suspicious circumstances.

The arrest affidavit specifically noted an investigation in the City of Miami where a victim in a comparable case underwent a comprehensive toxicology analysis. That individual's clinical screening yielded a positive confirmation for zolpidem, a powerful prescription sedative commonly utilized in the treatment of sleep disorders. Detectives observed that the physiological reactions reported in the Miami case closely mirrored the physical symptoms described by the Hallandale Beach victim.

Crouse's apprehension occurred on Friday, September 11, when an officer with the Seminole Police Department came into contact with her in Hollywood, Florida, during an inquiry into an unrelated trespassing complaint. A routine background and records check revealed the active Broward County warrant for her arrest.

Following her apprehension, Crouse was transferred to the custody of the Broward County Sheriff's Office jail facility. On September 14, a Broward County magistrate reviewed the charging documents, confirmed the existence of probable cause, and established her bond at $2,500 while issuing a formal order forbidding any contact with the victim.
