Powerball Jackpot Climbs to $232 Million Following Drawing With No Top Winner

The Powerball jackpot has rolled over once again after no ticket matched all six winning numbers in the Wednesday night drawing on September 9. As a result, lottery enthusiasts across the country will have their eyes on an even larger prize pool heading into the upcoming weekend.

The winning white ball numbers selected during the September 9 drawing were 9, 40, 42, 55, and 65. The red Powerball drawn was 23, and the Power Play multiplier for the night was set at 2X.

The grand prize up for grabs during Wednesday's session stood at an estimated $207 million. For a player choosing to take the one-time lump-sum payout rather than annuity installments, the cash value of that jackpot was calculated at $89.4 million.

Lottery officials confirmed that the top prize went completely unclaimed, as no participant succeeded in matching the full set of drawn numbers. In addition, there were no second-tier Match 5 winning tickets sold to claim the standard $1 million prize, nor were there any Match 5 winners with the Power Play option to take home a boosted $2 million reward.

With the jackpot continuing to roll, the estimated top prize for the next scheduled drawing on Saturday, September 12, has surged to $232 million. Players who manage to win the upcoming jackpot and opt for immediate cash will be looking at a projected lump-sum distribution of $100.0 million.

In addition to the main contest, the lottery held its regular Powerball Double Play drawing for September 9. The winning numbers generated for the Double Play session were 32, 33, 58, 62, and 69, with a red Powerball number of 18.

The Double Play feature provides ticket holders with an additional opportunity to win cash rewards, offering a secondary top prize of up to $10 million. Available in specific jurisdictions such as Kentucky, Indiana, and several other participating states, this add-on requires an additional fee of $1 per play.

Standard entry tickets for the base Powerball game are priced at $2 each. Players have the option to add the Power Play multiplier for an extra $1, which multiplies non-jackpot earnings across lower prize tiers depending on the multiplier number drawn during the event.

To participate in the multi-state lottery, players must choose five distinct numbers from a pool of 1 through 69 for the white balls, along with a single number from 1 through 26 for the red Powerball. Entrants can manually fill out their selections on a paper play slip or choose to have a lottery terminal generate a randomized set of quick-pick digits.

Drawings for the Powerball lottery are regularly scheduled three nights per week. The broadcasted drawings take place at 11 p.m. Eastern Time on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

Powerball tickets are widely accessible, with drawings held across 45 states—including Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana—alongside Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Participation is not restricted by residency status, meaning players do not need to be United States citizens or residents to buy tickets or collect eligible winnings.

In-person ticket sales take place across an extensive network of physical retail outlets, including local convenience stores, gas stations, and supermarkets throughout participating states. Sales cutoff deadlines vary by state and local jurisdiction, typically closing ticket counters between one and two hours prior to the live drawing.

Digital ticket purchasing options are also available to players depending on state regulations. Residents in Kentucky are able to purchase their lottery tickets directly online through the official Kentucky Lottery portal at kylottery.com.

Meanwhile, lottery players located in Ohio and Indiana can order Powerball tickets digitally via Jackpocket, which serves as the official digital lottery courier partner of the USA TODAY Network.

A selection of other states and territories also permit their residents to acquire official lottery tickets directly through state-run websites. These authorized digital jurisdictions include Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

Securing the top prize requires overcoming steep odds, with the probability of hitting all five white balls plus the red Powerball standing at 1 in 292.2 million. Lower-tier prize tiers offer better statistical odds, beginning with a 1 in 11.7 million chance to match all five white balls for $1 million, down to 1 in roughly 38 odds for matching only the red Powerball to win $4.
