Parole Revoked for Max Wade, Notorious Convict in Guy Fieri Car Heist and Mill Valley Shooting

Max Wade, the Marin County felon who achieved national notoriety as a teenager for a string of brazen crimes—including the high-profile theft of celebrity chef Guy Fieri’s luxury sports car and a calculated drive-by shooting—has had his parole grant formally revoked. The decision by state corrections authorities abruptly halts his potential path toward an early release and keeps the 32-year-old behind bars.

The reversal follows a concerted push from the Marin County District Attorney’s Office, which fiercely contested earlier findings that Wade was suitable for parole. Prosecutors requested a formal rescission hearing, an administrative proceeding utilized when new evidence of misconduct emerges or when earlier board determinations require reevaluation.

According to county prosecutors, the parole grant was rescinded after correctional officials discovered that Wade was in possession of a contraband cellular phone while incarcerated. Unauthorized mobile devices are strictly prohibited inside California penal institutions due to security concerns, and the infraction proved sufficient to nullify his previously approved timeline for release.

Wade continues to serve his life sentence at San Quentin State Prison. State Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation records indicate that his next parole suitability hearing is currently scheduled to take place on January 5, 2027.

The recent ruling overturns a milestone Wade achieved in July 2024, when a parole panel initially cleared the way for him to seek freedom as early as December 2028. That preliminary decision was met with immediate resistance from local prosecutors, who continued to maintain that the inmate represents an ongoing danger to the public and should not be reintegrated into society.

Wade first embarked on his illicit pursuits at the age of 14, operating well beyond the scope of a typical adolescent offender. Living in San Rafael, he launched an elaborate enterprise manufacturing and distributing fraudulent identification documents, a scheme that he later claimed generated hundreds of thousands of dollars in illicit revenue.

Despite accumulating significant financial gains from his counterfeit operation, Wade's ambitions escalated dramatically. In March 2011, he executed an audacious commercial burglary by rappelling through the rooftop of British Motors, a luxury vehicle dealership situated in San Francisco.

Inside the dealership showroom, Wade secured and drove away with a distinctive, banana-yellow Lamborghini. At the moment the heist took place, the young intruder was unaware that the high-end exotic vehicle belonged to Guy Fieri, the well-known television host and restaurateur.

While the daring automotive theft instantly captured nationwide media attention, Wade’s subsequent actions took a far darker turn. Investigators discovered that the teenager intended to use the stolen supercar to win the affection of a local high school peer, but she repeatedly rebuffed his romantic overtures.

Infuriated by the rejection, Wade shifted his focus toward violence against the young woman's romantic partner. Clad entirely in black riding gear, Wade mounted a motorcycle and staged an ambush along a road in Mill Valley, waiting for a pickup truck operated by the rival teenager.

When the vehicle came into view, Wade opened fire repeatedly directly into the passenger cabin. Law enforcement officials later established that Wade had been unaware that the girl he was trying to court was sitting inside the truck alongside the driver. Miraculously, neither occupant was struck or injured by the gunfire.

The subsequent investigation gathered momentum when detectives recovered sharp surveillance video from a nearby gas station that depicted the motorcyclist. By analyzing the unique design of the helmet visible in the footage, detectives tracked down a retail shop, Cycle Gear in San Francisco, where store cameras recorded Wade purchasing the helmet along with matching black motorcycle gloves and a protective mask.

When investigators presented the surveillance images to the targeted young woman, she promptly recognized the customer as Wade, noting that he had repeatedly attempted to pursue her. Working in tandem with detectives, she agreed to arrange a meeting with Wade under the pretense of going on a date in the yellow Lamborghini. As Wade readied the sports car for their meetup, waiting police officers ambushed and apprehended him.

Wade’s penchant for dramatic criminal acts continued even while he was detained awaiting trial at the Marin County Juvenile Hall. On the day he turned 18, at least two unidentified accomplices armed with bolt cutters breached the perimeter security fencing of the facility and began striking the exterior window of Wade's individual cell with a sledgehammer in a desperate breakout attempt.

The brazen escape effort forced the juvenile facility into immediate lockdown, causing significant alarm among the staff. Michael Daly, who served as the county’s chief probation officer at the time, recounted that the unarmed juvenile hall personnel experienced intense terror while calling for emergency sheriff's deputy assistance, noting that he had never witnessed such an incident in more than two decades on the job.

Although the sledgehammer-wielding accomplices managed to flee the property before law enforcement reinforcements arrived at the scene, the rescue effort failed, and Wade was immediately transferred into an adult correctional facility.

At age 19, Wade stood trial as an adult and was ultimately convicted of attempted murder, auto theft, and possession of a stolen vehicle, culminating in a life prison sentence. During the sentencing proceedings, the presiding judge expressed shock that the two teenagers in the truck had survived the barrage of gunfire, highlighting the months of meticulous, terrifying premeditation Wade had devoted to orchestrating the shooting.
